Principal Environmental Geochemist and Contamination Specialist
Over a 20 year career as an environmental scientist in consulting, mining, project management and approvals I have achieved a comprehensive knowledge of the technical, environmental, engineering and social aspects of mining and industry with extensive coordination between teams and awareness of potential risk when dealing with water quality issues, mining waste, site contamination and closure. Determining geochemical risk involves close collaboration between geological, hydrological, hydrogeological, environmental, engineering, mine planning and mine closure teams.
In addition to material characterisation, I create and implement acid mine drainage management plans, procedures for site management, standards, guidance documents and train personnel.
As a technical subject matter expert and site contamination specialist, I am often called on to advise on matters of water quality, waste classification, chemical hazards, correct sampling procedures and analytical suites.
I am experienced in interacting with regulatory authorities and describing the pertinent risks and scientific data, as well explaining difficult geochemical concepts to members of the team with different technical specialities.
Specialties:
• Technical studies for approvals, management plans, closure risks
• Water quality assessments and site specific guidelines
• Waste rock characterisation for acid and/or metalliferous drainage.
• Tailings geochemical characterisation
• Sulfidic waste and acid sulfate soils management
• Subsurface material characterisation rock and groundwater investigations
• Field sampling, analytical programme design and quality control
• Data collation, interpretation and presentation
